God Shows Mercy

 In Daily Devotional

1 Timothy 1:13-14

“Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.”

God is not the God of second chances. Rather, He is the God of another chance…and another chance…and another! He does not hold our past against us.

When we live in ignorance and unbelief, we are blinded to our sin. But, our Lord is patient with us, giving us many chances to respond to Him. We do many incredibly stupid, hurtful, rebellious acts before we finally respond to God’s love and grace.

He is always forgiving when we repent for our failures. He pours out His mercy on us abundantly along with His love. How very precious His forgiveness is to us when we choose to believe and receive it!

His unlimited love, grace and mercy are always available to anyone who comes to Him in humility and sincerity. God the Father gives us an unlimited number of chances.

He freely gives us a measure of faith to believe Him, and His goodness draws us to repentance. Jesus paid the price for us to say, “Yes”, to everything our Father is offering us.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell your Heavenly Father you are grateful for another chance. Thank Him for not giving up on you when “the world” was ready to write you off. Ask Him to teach you how to receive His mercy!

Dive Deeper: Think about the love, mercy and forgiveness of God towards David, Peter, and Saul (Paul). Consider what might have happened if Adam and Judas had repented in humble sincerity.
