God Loves Prisoners

 In Daily Devotional

God must have a special love and attention reserved for people like us – prisoners, convicts, inmates, and captives. In fact, Strong’s Concordance listed over 340 verses where the word “prison”, “prisoner”, “captive” or “captivity” is a key word.

Here are some examples:

Psalm 102:19-20 – “The Lord looked down…from Heaven…to hear the groans of the prisoners…”

Psalm 69:33 – “The Lord… does not despise His captive people…”

Psalm 146:7 – “The Lord sets prisoners free.”

Zechariah 9:11-12 – “I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit…O prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.”

Matthew 25:36 – Jesus said, “…I was in prison and you came and visited me.”

Also, in one of His first talks in the synagogue, Jesus quoted:

Isaiah 61:1 “…the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…”

God has compassion for those in bondage. He listens, and He wants to set them free!

Even though you are incarcerated, you can in fact be free. I was in several prisons of my own making long before I ever heard a succession of steel doors slam behind me. Going to prison set me free forever after God found me and saved me right there on my prison bunk.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell the Father you want true freedom through Jesus by His Holy Spirit.

Be free on the inside.
