Rescue Me

 In Daily Devotional

God has plenty of experience pulling people up out of their own miry, dark, damp, deep pit. David, a man after God’s own heart, must have known exactly what it was like:

Psalm 69:14-15 “Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.”

Psalm 40:1-2 “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire…”

Before I went to prison, I lived for years in hopelessness and despair. Having been previously diagnosed as bi-polar, I lived in an almost constant state of suicidal depression. Homeless and helpless, I thought nothing would ever get better in any way. Frozen in fear of what might happen if I ever tried to climb out, I sunk lower and lower into what I was sure was a bottomless black hole pit.

When I finally admitted I could not help myself, and turned to Him in true humility, God was ready, willing and able to step in, reach down and pull me out.

Can you see yourself sinking? Are you bogged down? Are you finally ready to stop trying to save yourself? Cry out for help.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Reach out to God. Call on the Name of Jesus. He will give you Peace. He will rescue you.

Let Him.
