Distinguished by the Presence

Exodus 33:15-16

“Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

Moses knew very well that he could not lead the people alone. He asked God in Exodus 33:13 to “teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.” The Lord replied in verse 14, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Moses recognized how helpless he was without God. In true humility, he submitted himself totally to God because he realized the importance of God’s favor, and he desired above all else to learn His ways. God’s answer was to give Moses Himself.

As true followers of Jesus, we must admit that without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5), but with Him all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). God has given us His Presence to remain with us at all times. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Teacher, Counselor, Friend and Guide.

For the Israelites, the Presence of God went before them in a flame of fire. Today, we have the fire of God residing in us! Surely, the world sees a difference in those who host His Presence well. Does this distinguish you from those around you?

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell the Father you want to learn His ways and receive His favor. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to host His Presence effectively every day. Make a choice to seek the Spirit’s direction in everything you do today.
