Help Win the Battle

Exodus 17:11-13

“As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.”

What a powerful illustration and lesson we have in this scripture passage today. The Israelites had come under an intense attack by the Amalekites. The man of God, Moses, gave instructions to Joshua to take some men and go out to fight them. He assured Joshua that he would take the “staff of God” to the top of the hill overlooking the battle.

As long as Moses held up the staff of God the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered the staff in weakness the battle shifted to the enemy. The man of God was anointed for leadership, and he had the wisdom to exercise his faith with the staff of God, but on his own he did not have the strength to prevail. He needed others to help him.

Wherever you find yourself involved in the body of Christ today, make it your aim to humbly serve the leaders God has provided you. They were never meant to carry the entire burden of leadership alone. Make yourself useful and help win the victory.
