You Need Only to be Still

Exodus 14:13-14

“Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.’”

As the children of Israel were leaving Egypt under the leadership of Moses at the instruction of God, they found themselves in what appeared to them to be an impossible situation. In the natural, all their circumstances seemed stacked totally against them, and they were convinced there was no hope for a way of escape. Have you ever felt this way?

The Israelites were terrified as they saw Pharaoh’s armies approaching. They felt trapped and feared for their death, but they did not know that it was actually God’s plan to trap and destroy their pursuers.

Moses knew God had not brought them this far to abandon them. He exhorted the people not to be afraid, rather, that they should stand still and see the deliverance of the Lord. In response to God’s instructions, Moses exercised his faith, raised his staff and stretched out his arm above the sea and the waters parted so the Israelites could pass through safely!

How many times have you been convinced of a hopeless situation? Maybe your circumstances seem impossible to you even now – a mountain too big, or an ocean too deep? Exercise your faith. Stand firm and see the Lord’s deliverance.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Talk to the Father about how you view your circumstances and why they seem impossible to you. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you peace in the storm and the patience to wait on God. Believe.

You need only to be still.
