Put on the New Self
Ephesians 4:22-24
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Yesterday, Paul reminded us of our old self. Today, he continues by commanding us to “put off our old self”, and to “put on the new self”. This is something we must remind ourselves daily.
The enemy will be constantly trying to tempt us to act out of our old nature, “our old self”. We must be wise to his tricks, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. We must “be made new in the attitude of our minds”. This occurs progressively as we are being transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2) through the Word of God.
Because Jesus took all our sin upon Himself, our new man received the righteousness of God (see 2 Corinthians 5:21). In Christ, we can walk in His righteousness and holiness, which is the Father’s intention for us. We are able to achieve this more every day to the extent we learn to surrender absolutely to the Holy Spirit as He sanctifies us in Christ and sets us apart for service to the Father.
Every day, I remind myself I am altogether a new person. I often express my deep gratitude to the Father that my old self is gone! Do you?
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Thank the Father for making you a totally new person in Christ Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you more completely how to put off the old self and put on the new.
