No Grumbling or Arguing

Philippians 2:14-16

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, ‘children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.’ Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life…”

God does not want us to grumble and complain, or argue. It promotes strife and discord within the body of Christ, and gives a very bad witness to unbelievers. Read Numbers 14 to see what happened to the Israelites as a result of their grumbling and complaining.

With regard to arguing, in 2 Timothy 2:23-24, Paul instructs us, “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel…”

Although the way of the world is certainly to complain and argue, as believers we will stand out in a positive way when we refuse to give in to these devices of the enemy. We must remember that although we are “in” the world, we are no longer “of” the world.

The Father wants us to become blameless and pure, without fault, so that His Love demonstrated in us will allow us to shine like stars. As we surrender more every day to the Holy Spirit, He is able to teach us and help us hold firmly to the Word of Life, Christ Jesus, in the midst of an angry, sinful, grumbling, and arguing world.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell your Heavenly Father that you desire to go through this day without complaining or arguing. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you quickly take wrong thoughts captive so that you do not hinder your Christian witness by being lured into the enemy’s trap.
