Meditate on the Word

Psalm 1:1-3

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers.”

I believe today’s scripture reveals two of the secrets to consistently living the abundant quality of life Jesus came to give us (John 10:10). The first is, delight daily in God’s Word and meditate on it continuously. The second is, surround yourself only with people who do the same.

When I consider the promises in verse 3, for those who meet the preceding requirements, I picture a large, healthy tree whose roots are sunk down deep into fertile ground extending out underneath the riverbed itself. The water from the stream would be constantly feeding the roots, keeping it in good health, enabling it to produce the fruit God designed for it, and supporting leaves that never even wilt.

This is like the provision, fruit, plan and endurance God has for the man who is fully committed and dedicated to seeking Him and His Word daily. In so doing, God’s man wisely chooses his friends, and he prospers in everything he does. The favor of God surrounds him as a shield (Psalm 5:12).

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell the Father you desire to delight in His Word, and that you want it to soak deep within your spirit and soul. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you wisely choose companions.
