Knowledge of the Holy

Proverbs 9:10

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

In prison, not too long after I gave my life to Christ, on the table in the day room where everyone knows books left there are “up for grabs”, I found a very tattered, thin, pocket-size paperback that has become my favorite book. It is Knowledge of the Holy, by A.W. Tozer.

Reverend Tozer writes short but very compelling chapters covering each of twenty major attributes of God. The primary verse for his book is today’s scripture.

The fear of the Lord is often misunderstood. The more we seek Him with all our heart, the more we begin to learn and appreciate some of His most marvelous attributes. In so doing, our awe, reverence, love and respect for our Almighty God begins to increase dramatically. This fear of the Lord is the prerequisite to beginning to learn the wisdom of God.

Man’s wisdom is no comparison to the wisdom of God. It is child’s play. Foolishness. Yet, God in His grace has revealed some of His wisdom in His Word; and, Jesus became for us wisdom from God (1 Corinthians 1:30).

If we desire with all our heart to know God, He reveals more of His nature to us. He is Holy. We are not. We must start with that. As we begin to know the Holy One, we start to acquire true understanding.

I pray regularly for the fear of the Lord, wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Ask the Father to help you seek wisdom though a proper fear of the Lord; and lead you to more knowledge and understanding of His Holiness.
