Be Sanctified by the Spirit

 In Daily Devotional

1 Peter 1:2

“…who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood…”

It is the sanctifying work of the Spirit that allows us to be obedient to Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:2). As obedient children we are encouraged and empowered by His Holy Spirit not to “conform to the evil desires we once had when we lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.” (1 Peter 1:14-15).

In our own strength this is impossible, but all things are possible with God the Holy Spirit doing the work of sanctification in us.

The Word tells us that “His Divine Power has given us everything we need for life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3) and that He “teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age” (Titus 2:12). We must receive everything He has given us and be willing to say “No” to worldly temptations. He will help us if we let Him.

Near the back of this book I have included two prayers for submission I think you will find helpful. It is His job to change you. Your job is to willingly surrender, submit and be obedient to what He wants to do in His ongoing process of sanctification in you.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Pray the Prayers of Submission near the back of the book.

Allow the Spirit to do His work.
