A Prophet Like Moses

 In Daily Devotional

Deuteronomy 18:15, 18-19

“(Moses said) 15The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him… (God said) 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.”

The people of Israel were told to expect a prophet like Moses in their future. There was no question that this prophet would be sent to them by God Himself. This is who they were referring to when they asked John the Baptist, “Are you the prophet?”, to which John replied, “No.” See John 1:21 and 25.

Most scholars believe this scripture passage is a prophecy of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. It is reported that about 25% or more of Scripture was prophetic at the time it was written. The fact that most of these prophecies have already been fulfilled over the years with pinpoint-like accuracy distinguishes the Bible from every other book in the world.

God the Father clearly assigns great importance and authority to this prophet He raises up. Jesus repeated often that He only said what He heard the Father say. At the Transfiguration, the Father said, “This is my Son, listen to Him”.

Jesus is called the “Living Word” by John; and, Peter said, “You have the words of life.”

Are you listening to Jesus?

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell the Father you want to hear Jesus better. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you learn to hear and obey Jesus more all the time.
