He is Always with Us

Matthew 28:20

“…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

In John 14:15-20, Jesus had explained that He and the Father were going to send the Spirit of Truth to help them, and be with them forever.

Jesus knew His work in His earthly body was about to be finished, but He wanted His disciples, and those who believed in Him through them, to know they would always have a Helper, Advocate, Counselor and Friend. The Spirit of the Father, and the Spirit of Christ, that is, the Holy Spirit, would fulfill all these promised roles, and He would never leave them.

Jesus, as a man, could only be in one place at a time. In John 16:12, Jesus said those who follow Him would do greater works than He did. Pretty unbelievable, right? Yet, when you multiply all the efforts of all the disciples in different places manifesting miracles through the same power of the Holy Spirit that anointed Jesus, one might imagine these as “the greater works”.

Jesus Himself said all this was possible “because I am going to the Father”. He knew that the Holy Spirit Who had been with them as the anointing of Jesus will now be in them (John 14:17).

Could this be one reason He told them to wait until they received power from on high before they went out to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-19)?

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Thank the Father that you are never alone. Tell Him you want to be fully empowered to do the works of Jesus by the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.
