You have Brought Me this Far
1 Chronicles 17:16-17
“Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said:
‘Who am I, LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, LORD God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.’”
It bothered David that the Ark of God resided under a tent while he dwelt in a palace. David wanted to build a more permanent, beautiful house for God. At first, the prophet Nathan encouraged him to do whatever he had in mind because the Lord was with him.
However, that very night the Lord came to Nathan in a dream to give him a message for David. The Lord told David He did not want him to be the one to build His house, rather God would let one of his sons build it after David’s days were over.
But God surprised David, when He said, instead of David building God a house, God said, “I declare to you that the Lord will build a house for you.” (verse 10). God promised to establish the House of David forever.
With that overwhelming surprise and blessing in mind, we have today’s passage as David began a long prayer of thanks and praise (verses 16-25). How very humbled He was in front of the Lord.
We must understand that when we set our hearts to follow hard after God for the rest of our lives, God will bless our family now, and for generations to come.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Re-commit your heart to the Father, and thank Him that He has brought you this far.
