The Spirit Intercedes for Us
Romans 8:26, AMP
“In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.”
As a believer, we are never left on our own because we always have the Holy Spirit. This is also true when it comes to prayer.
In Heaven, we have Jesus interceding for us (see Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 2:1), and on earth, we have the Holy Spirit to help us when we do not know how to pray. Sometimes it is hard to express ourselves completely from the deepest part of our being. We run out of words before we feel a release deep inside of the yearning and striving associated with the request.
The Holy Spirit is able to express our deepest feelings for us in intercession when we “pray in the Spirit” with groans, syllables and phrases in which our mind does not engage. Paul refers to praying with his spirit and singing with his spirit in 1 Corinthians 14:15.
Jude 1:20 says to “build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit’s intercession on our behalf makes us stronger!
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Ask the Father to help you express your prayer requests more completely by His Holy Spirit’s intercession. Tell Him you want to learn to pray powerfully and effectively in any way He provides. Surrender to the expression by the Holy Spirit of your deepest needs and concerns.
