The Spirit Anointed Jesus

 In Daily Devotional

Luke 4:14, 18

“Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside… (Jesus said,) 18“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free…”

The anointing of Jesus by the Holy Spirit must have been so evident to everyone with whom He came into contact, that they immediately understood He was no ordinary rabbi or prophet. People were drawn to Him and to His uniqueness.

In his first public address in a synagogue, He proclaimed He was the anointed One Isaiah had written about 700 years earlier. He found the place in the scroll of Isaiah, read the prophecy, and proclaimed that it had been fulfilled in Him.

The same anointing available to Jesus is also available to us. Our challenge is to learn to submit, allow His Holy Spirit to lead us, and be willing to be quickly obedient. There are multitudes who need to hear the Good News so they can be set free from every form of bondage. As they see the anointing on us while we daily become more like Jesus, the Spirit will draw them to the Father.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Thank the Father that by His grace the same Spirit that anointed Jesus lives in you. Ask Him to help you become more submissive and obedient so that His Spirit will impact others through you today.

You are anointed and appointed! Live like it.
