The One True Guide

John 16:13

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

Although the Godhead is comprised of three distinct Persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, they are always in perfect agreement instantly. They never have to have a strategy meeting, or a vote on what to do.

Consequently, Jesus told His disciples that anytime the Spirit spoke to them or otherwise guided them, they could be sure He was speaking for the Father and the Son. Furthermore, they could know with certainty that He would always proclaim or reveal absolute truth because He is the Spirit of Truth.

Since the Spirit is also the Spirit of Prophecy in that He always has the testimony of Jesus (see Revelation 19:10), we can be certain He knows future events, and can guide us with that in mind. We can trust Him to tell us things to come through a word of prophecy or wisdom.

We should always seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit even for the simplest of daily decisions. This is a picture of true surrender, submission and humility. The best thing for us to know is that “of our own selves, we can do nothing”, but “with Him all things are possible”.

Thank the Father that He has given you the Spirit of Truth to overcome all the lies of the enemy. Tell Him you trust Him to guide you one day at a time into your future.
