The Love of the Spirit
Romans 15:30
“Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me…”
We have previously seen that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth (see April 6), and we know He is also the Spirit of the Father (see April 5). Since God is Love, the love of His Spirit will be a major factor in our lives as Christians.
The Body of Christ must come together in love. Love abides forever, and it never fails. The Holy Spirit, in love, gently convicts believers of sin, rather than condemning them in shame. The foremost fruit of the Spirit is love (see April 30), and the evidence that we follow Jesus will be our walk of love (see John 13:34-35).
Paul urges Christians to unite in prayer for specific purposes. The power of agreement in prayer cannot be overstated. Notice that Paul requests them to “strive” in prayer. Prevailing prayer requires diligence, faith and patience. It is a key component in our spiritual armor.
Through the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is full of Grace and Truth, Paul knows that believers who strive together in prayer, and walk in love, will see victory.
Do you see areas in your life where there is a need for unity, prayer and love?
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Tell the Father you are grateful for the love of the Holy Spirit in your life. Ask Him to identify areas where you need more unity with the body of Christ, and to give you wisdom as to how to prevail in prayer and walk in love today.
