Sow Righteousness

 In Daily Devotional

Hosea 10:12

Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.”

Galatians 6:7

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

What does it mean to “sow righteousness”? To me, one way of looking at it would be when I am faced with a decision between two actions, I would always want to choose to “do the right thing”. Also, since righteousness means “to be in right standing”, I would want to be intentional about doing things with which God is pleased.

God’s unconditional love is always extended towards us, but I believe if we are proactive about remaining in right standing with God, we would be positioned to more fully experience His unfailing love. Of course, doing good things for others with the right motivation will eventually result in more love being sent our way from others.

Since today’s verse encourages us to “break up your unplowed ground”, this might mean to examine those areas of my life where no righteousness is being produced, and then take action to surrender that part of my life to God. That is, “unplowed ground” could be parts of my life that I haven’t yet fully committed to God.

Let’s don’t deceive ourselves, we are always sowing and reaping. What is happening in our lives today is a result of what we sowed sometime in the past. Choose to sow righteousness.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell the Father you want to always be in right standing with Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to identify any unplowed ground and teach you how to make it productive.
