Shaping from the Clay

 In Daily Devotional

Jeremiah 18:1-6

“This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: 2 “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
5 Then the word of the LORD came to me. 6 He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.”

I love this story. Are you allowing God to shape you? Are you trusting Him to make of you what He wants – what He sees in His mind’s eye – so you can know and fulfill the plan He has for you?

As I think about “the potter’s house” I think it may have a couple of meanings for us today. We know we are the house of the Holy Spirit, so I believe it can be to us in our private time with God where He says, “I will give you My message.” But I also think of corporate worship in the house of God, where we assemble with other believers, that can also be the place where He can and will speak to us.

But do we listen? We have all been “marred” in life by our sin, and the sins of others. Are you patiently trusting Him to re-make you?

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Ask the Father to make of you what He wants. Let Him mold and shape you.
