Set Your Minds

 In Daily Devotional

Colossians 3:2-3

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

Wrong “mindsets” are available in abundance in prison. To counter this, we must “set our minds”.

We are encouraged in the Word to “set our minds” on things above, not on earthly things so prevalent around us. Another version says to “set our hearts”. I believe right mindsets affect our heart – our deepest core of being.

Setting our minds and hearts on things above can be done by adopting Heaven’s priorities and rejecting worldly influences and demands. We concentrate on things of eternal importance instead of temporarily insignificant distractions and temptations. As Christians, our real home is where Jesus is. The Word says we are seated with him in Heavenly places.

When you think of your old man as dead, and realize you are now alive in Christ Jesus, you will have as little desire for worldly things as a corpse has – none. Admittedly, this is not achieved overnight, especially in prison. It is a process requiring practice and perseverance.

Observe the world around you through God’s lens of love and holiness.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Ask God the Father to help you view and evaluate everything from a heavenly and eternal perspective. Decide to try your best today to see things through His eyes. Ask Him to love others through you today by His Holy Spirit in you.

Overcome wrong mindsets by setting your mind on things above.
