Serve Wholeheartedly
Ephesians 6:7-8
“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people,8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do…”
Reading this verse should remind us how Jesus humbled Himself to serve mankind. This was in part illustrated as He washed the feet of His disciples the night before He knew He would give up His life for us all. He did this as an example for all of us that we should serve one another. See John 13:12-17.
Even though Jesus was clearly their Master and Teacher, He very intentionally humbled Himself and became their servant. By all rights, they should have been washing His feet. This very same evening, Jesus tells His disciples, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34-35). He was showing His love for them.
One of the greatest demonstrations of love is to serve someone else willingly, unexpectedly, and wholeheartedly. It is important to do this without expecting recognition, or even gratitude. We serve out of a heart of love for our Savior who first loved and served us. Human recognition and rewards are temporary, but the reward from our Lord is eternal.
Every day we should be looking for ways to serve others out of love with our whole heart. The world needs to see something distinctive about those who follow Jesus. Let them see it in our love and service for others.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Ask the Father to give you ideas and opportunities how to serve someone today. Make a decision to represent Jesus today by demonstrating to others His example of service with a pure and whole heart by His Holy Spirit.
Serve wholeheartedly.
