No Water, Only Mud

Jeremiah 38:6

“So they took Jeremiah and put him into the cistern… They lowered Jeremiah by ropes into the cistern; it had no water in it, only mud, and Jeremiah sank down into the mud.”

Even a committed, true believer is not exempt from trouble. Sometimes life circumstances put us in a place from which we can see no relief or escape. It is times like these that really test our faith.

Perhaps others brought us to this place merely by us being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Their poor choices and/or sin impacted us as well as them. Or maybe our own lapse of judgment took us down the wrong path that ended in a very difficult place.

Other times, through no apparent fault of our own, we find ourselves in what we view as a hopeless situation, and we feel helpless to do anything about it. Regardless of how we got there, we need to be rescued.

Jeremiah was a dedicated servant of the Lord and one of God’s most reliable prophets to His people, Israel. He had been proclaiming the Word of the Lord as he had been instructed, but it was not a popular message. Sometimes, people don’t really like hearing the truth.

Jeremiah did not give up, and did not turn away from God. God knew his situation and used a former enemy to pull him out of the pit not long before he would have died.

Where ever the difficult place is you are now, don’t give up. Stay true to God, He will pull you out.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell God your only hope lies in Him. Call out to him today in faith.
