Less is More
Judges 7:2, 7-8
“The LORD said to Gideon, ‘You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’’… 7 The LORD said to Gideon, ‘With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.’ 8 So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites home but kept the three hundred…”
Continuing today with the story of Gideon, we learn how with God less is more. Gideon started out with 32,000 men to go against the Midianites and Amalekites who were too numerous to count. Already, we know that Gideon is far outnumbered.
God wants to make the odds even more impossible, and whittles down Gideon’s force to 22,000, but God says that is still too many. So then he reduced it to only 300! God wanted to be sure that the people of Israel knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that it was only the Lord’s work that made the overwhelming victory possible.
We often find ourselves in what seems to be an absolutely hopeless situation against overwhelming odds. In the natural, we do not see any chance of victory. It may be homelessness, illness, imprisonment, unemployment or any of a hundred other situations. But, we must remember God has the final say, ultimate authority, all power, and perfect timing.
We must call out to Him, trust Him, and do what He is leading us to do. Victory is His!
