Holy Spirit Direction

 In Daily Devotional

Acts 13:2

“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’”

In order for us to be led daily by the Spirit instead of the flesh, we must be obedient to follow His direction. When He speaks, we listen and do what He says.

The disciples were seeking the Lord and His Presence by worshiping and fasting. In response to their pressing in for more of Him, the Holy Spirit gave them direction. Saul, who was later called Paul, and Barnabas, responded to this direction. For this, we should all be very thankful because Paul ended up writing more than half of the New Testament we study today; and, they helped take the Gospel to the nations.

Many people say they have never heard the Spirit speak to them. Personally, I have never heard an audible voice, but on a daily basis, I feel His impressions in my mind and heart, and I try to respond with instant obedience.

An intimate personal relationship with the Father is only possible because of Jesus; and, it is developed through the Spirit’s ongoing communication with us, and our obedient response to Him.

The more time we spend alone with God in prayer, Bible study, worship and/or fasting, the better we will hear the direction of the Spirit for our lives.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Ask the Father to help you learn to listen and obey His direction for your life through His Holy Spirit. Be still, and listen to the small voice within the deepest part of your being.

Follow His direction.
