Boast about This
Jeremiah 9:23-24
“This is what the LORD says: ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, 24 but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the LORD.”
For most of us, the majority of our life is consumed with learning, doing things to support or strengthen our physical body, and working to pay bills and accumulate wealth. In and of themselves, there is nothing wrong with any of this; in fact, we deem these things to be evidence of living a responsible life.
Yet, our natural tendency is to take great pride in our intelligence, physical strength, and possessions. We may not always brag about them openly, but inside, to ourselves, we do.
But, all these things are temporary. Our intelligence and physical strength deteriorate over time; and, are totally gone with our physical death. Similarly, we cannot take our possessions into eternity with us. Someone said, “There is never a U-Haul trailer hooked up to a hearse.”
I would much rather talk about who I am in Christ now than who I once was before I was saved. The success and money of my earlier life did not last; but what I have now in Christ will last for all of eternity. My life has never been fuller or possessed more meaning.
I didn’t create it or earn it. It all flows from my growing knowledge, love and appreciation of God.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Tell the Father you want to set good priorities; and, above all, you want to know Him better.
