Be Prosperous and Successful

Joshua 1:7-8

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Here we have the secret to success and prosperity in life – faithful obedience to, and meditating continually upon, God’s Word!

God Himself gave these instructions to Joshua before he led the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Notice that he urged Joshua to “Be strong and courageous”. In fact, God told him this three times in four verses. In the times in which we now live, it certainly takes courage and strength to serve God and obey His Word. But as we learned yesterday, we are never alone.

The Bible is filled with examples of how blessings from God always follow obedience to God. In this passage today, God tells us to adhere closely to the Word because in doing so faithfully we will find success.

My own experience in prison led me to begin to memorize verses, and meditate upon their meaning and daily application to my life. The more I have read, memorized and meditated upon the Word, the more success and prosperity have come my way as I have sincerely tried to obey it daily.

Thank the Father for His Word. Tell Him you want to be able to memorize it and meditate upon its meaning. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you obey, and to use His Word to guide your life today.
