Be Holy in All You Do
1 Peter 1:14-16
“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
I suggest you read 1 Peter 1:3-16, which is the important passage leading into, and including, today’s verses. This is one section you ought to take your time with and really absorb in your spirit.
Sometimes it is hard for me to believe the incredible transformation (brought on at Pentecost by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit) in Peter, an unlearned fisherman, to such an extent that he could later write such beautiful and meaningful letters as 1 and 2 Peter.
Today’s extended passage is a powerful presentation of our blessedness in Christ, such that we are supernaturally inspired, challenged and empowered to live a holy life as a natural outflow of this remarkable truth in our lives. Peter says, in verse 12, that all this is so spectacular and unique that, “Even angels long to look into these things”.
God is Holy. As humans, we could never approach His Holiness. Peter does not say we are to be holy “as” He is Holy; rather, he is careful to say “because” He is Holy. There is an immeasurable difference in the two.
I believe the Holy Spirit will help us “be holy in all we do” if we let Him lead us, and are obedient.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Consider and meditate upon the absolute Holiness of God. Thank the Father that through Jesus and His Holy Spirit, you are able to be holy in all you do today.
