Be Free

John 8:36

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Jesus took all our burdens on Himself so we could be free to live and walk in the abundantly blessed life He planned for us.

Many people in “the free world” are in self-imposed, self-constructed prisons. Whether we are in an actual prison behind razor wire, or not, people everywhere struggle with “addictions” that negatively impact their lives – such as pride, selfishness, depression, anger, pornography, alcohol, prescription medicines, illegal drugs and many others. We may have been enslaved by them for many years. I know I was certainly in a prison of my own making many years before I was actually incarcerated.

Oftentimes, we indulge in addictive behavior to try to fill the emptiness we feel inside, and/or to avoid thinking about and dealing with the root causes of the addictions. At first, dealing with the underlying issues is emotionally painful, and our natural tendency is to avoid pain, even when something good like freedom awaits us on the other side. But the Word of God is clear that Jesus took all our pain, shame, guilt and sin on Himself when He hung on the Cross.

The enemy of your soul wants to keep you in bondage. Remember, he is the father of lies.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Ask your Heavenly Father to help you fully understand and appreciate all Jesus accomplished for you at the Cross. Request your Helper, the Holy Spirit, to give you discernment to reject the lies of the enemy.

Be free.
