Going Home: Be Held Accountable

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

Having a trusted accountability partner is an important factor in maintaining a faithful walk, both inside and outside of prison. This requires an attitude of respect and humility towards each other. We must commit to be transparent and honest with one another.

For many the idea of sharing personal information seems restrictive, or even an invasion of our privacy. However, the Bible says we are to confess our faults to each other, so that we may be healed. See James 5:16. I believe this primarily refers to the healing of our wounded souls.

Paul tells us to submit to one another. See Ephesians 5:21. The disciples were submitted and accountable to Jesus. Jesus was submitted and accountable to the Father. Regardless of one’s position, everyone is accountable to somebody.

The enemy sees our weaknesses, and knows how to exploit them. One of his most successful strategies is to convince us to keep our failings a secret. We must not cooperate with the enemy. We can overcome him by being honest with a trusted accountability partner who will help and encourage us. It is generally agreed that accountability partners should be the same gender.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell your Heavenly Father you desire to be held accountable to Him and to others in the Body of Christ.

Be held accountable for your thoughts, words and actions.
