Wonderful Counselor
Isaiah 9:6-7
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”
Over 700 years before the birth of our Lord Jesus, Isaiah wrote this prophecy. Today is the day that has been designated as the celebration of His birth although no-one knows for sure when His actual birth date was. Frankly, we ought to celebrate His birth every day!
Jesus has been given to us to restore us to relationship with our “Everlasting Father” through the forgiveness of sin. He is the “Mighty God” and “Prince of Peace”. His justice and righteousness know no bounds; and, His love for us is eternal, unlimited, and unconditional. He is the King of kings, and Lord of lords.
Today, I am especially thankful that He is “Wonderful Counselor”; and, I am reminded the angel announced to Mary that His Name would be “Immanuel”, which means “God With Us” (Matthew 1:23). To me, “God With Us”, foretold of the gift the Father and Son would send us in the form of their Spirit, the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4), who would never leave us (Matthew 28:20).
Jesus said it was better for Him to go away because He would send the Counselor, the Holy Spirt (John 16:7). Today I am especially thankful He did!
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Thank the Father for sending the Son, and for the two of them sending the Holy Spirit.
