Surrender

 In Daily Devotional

Isaiah 64:8

“But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

Before I was saved in prison, I wanted to change my life but was powerless to do so. I learned that I could not change me. If I could have changed me I would have done so long before I was addicted, depressed, suicidal, homeless, lonely, lost, and eventually incarcerated! Is this also true of you? Have you tried to change yourself?

I tried to change myself an endless number of times but failed every time. So it was really great news to me that God did not expect me to change myself! Really. He only wanted me to allow His Holy Spirit to possess me, be willing daily to allow Him to lead me in the right way, and try my best to be instantly obedient to His promptings.

When we willingly surrender to God the Holy Spirit in us, and daily submit to be led by His Spirit instead of being led by our “flesh”, He will begin His work of sanctification in us! In other words, when we surrender to the Spirit, and submit to His leadership moment by moment, He will change us. We are not responsible for changing ourselves.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you learn to surrender daily to His leadership. Decide today to submit to God in every way, every day.

Let Him change you. Stop trying to change yourself.
