Make a Covenant with your Eyes
Job 31:1
“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.”
Before I gave my life to Jesus while I was in prison, I had many addictions. You may be familiar with my testimony. One of the worst ones was my addiction to pornography. The devil got a big hook in my jaw and drug me around for years.
I felt like I was absolutely helpless to avoid the many temptations the enemy threw like bait in front of a fish. Magazines, adult theatres, on-line porn, adult chat lines, and sexually suggestive conversations occupied an ever larger percentage of my day, every day.
I had descended into reprobation, perversion and depravity of every kind. I participated in almost every form of sexual immorality. Romans 1:18-32 certainly described me, especially verses 24-28. Before Christ, I was filled with shame, regret and embarrassment for the life I was living, but I felt helpless to stop. Have you ever felt this way?
Praise God for freedom! Jesus forgave me for my many sins of yesterday, but He also paid the price to set me free from the power of sin today and tomorrow. But, I have a responsibility to cooperate with His Holy Spirit as He teaches me how to resist temptation and stay free.
We must want to leave our sin, and turn to God. We must choose to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). Memorizing and quoting scripture specific to the temptation is one of the best ways to accomplish this.
Today’s verse is still an effective weapon for me.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Tell the Father how thankful you are for Jesus setting you free from the power of sin. Be intentional about staying free.
