Jesus Needed the Holy Spirit

 In Daily Devotional

Matthew 3:16-17

“As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’”

The loving heart of the Father for the Son is revealed in His precious gift of the Holy Spirit! God the Father knew Jesus would need all His Power to carry out His work on Earth.

As a man, Jesus needed the Holy Spirit. So do we. The Father and the Son sent us the Holy Spirit as our Helper. See John 14:16-17. The Holy Spirit is our Friend, Counselor and Guide. He is the Spirit of Truth.

Everything Jesus did – His preaching, His healings, His suffering, His victory over sin – He did by the power of the Holy Spirit. See Acts 10:38. If Jesus could do nothing without the empowerment of the Spirit, how much more do we need the Spirit’s power in our lives?

The almighty power of the Father on this earth is manifested in, and administered by, the Holy Spirit! What a wonderful mystery that He would want to dwell in us! See 1 Corinthians 3:16. Because His Spirit lives in us and we belong to God, we will desire to live a life that is pleasing to God.
