Jesus Is Coming Back

 In Daily Devotional

John 14:1-3

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Jesus is coming back for His people. The signs of His soon return are increasing. See devotionals for February 13 and July 24 for more information. We are not to be in anxiety, fear or turmoil about this. We know we can trust Jesus, and He says He is coming back.

In the Jewish marriage custom, once the couple was betrothed (similar to engagement, but more binding), the man would go home to his father’s house to prepare a place for he and his bride to honeymoon. When everything was completed, furnished, and ready, only the father of the groom could proclaim all was ready, and that it was time for the groom to go get His bride. Until then when asked about the date, the groom responded, “only my father knows.”

The bride had to be ready because she did not know when her bridegroom would return, but she knew without doubt that he would come. Jesus uses this sacred custom so that His followers would understand the importance and surety of His return.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell the Father you are anticipating the return of Jesus for you as part of His Bride, the Church. Ask His Holy Spirit to help you ready yourself, and your loved ones, for this day.
