God’s Gift
Matthew 1:18, 20
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit… 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
On behalf of humanity, an innocent girl received the most magnificent gift – Jesus was conceived in Mary by God, the Holy Spirit.
This Divine Intervention into history must be the single most significant event for all of eternity. God injects Himself into fallen, restrictive, three-dimensional space to take upon Himself the penalty for all sin, for all time, so that we may have an opportunity to choose whether we will have an intimate personal relationship with our Heavenly Father God.
His Holy Spirit exercised ultimate Creative Power to bring this about. In similar fashion as with Creation in the beginning where the Spirit hovered over the deep waiting to carry out the Word, the Spirit’s Presence came upon Mary to create the Living Word, Jesus. Later in the new testament, we learn the Holy Spirit was also intimately involved in the creation of His Body – the Church.
Like Mary, let us receive this Ultimate Gift from God, His Son, Jesus!
