Give Generously
1 Chronicles 29:9, 14
“The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly… (he said) 14 ‘But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.’”
David was not allowed to build the Temple for God because he “was a warrior and have shed blood” (2 Chronicles 28:3). However, the Spirit of God gave David the ideas and ability to draw up all the plans, make all the arrangements, and inspired him to give much of his fortune to pay for it.
When the leaders of Israel heard David’s plans and saw his heart to give unto God, they too gave generously in extravagant fashion. We see in today’s passage how the people of Israel responded to this great undertaking and the gifts that had been freely given in wholehearted love and honor for God.
In verses 10-13, we are told how David praised the Lord in the presence of the entire assembly of Israel. Oh, how blessed we are to have all the wonderful works of praise of David as examples of how we too ought to honor and praise our God!
David humbly recognizes what a blessing it is to be able to give unto the Lord. After all, everything we have comes from Him, and we are only giving back to Him a portion of what He has given us.
Always be generous with God. You cannot out-give Him!
