Build Others Up

 In Daily Devotional

Ephesians 4:29

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

The Holy Spirit is grieved when we speak in ungodly ways. See March 30 and April 18. We are able to choose our words, so we should not let the wrong ones out.

This is possible when we become more successful in changing our hearts and taking the wrong thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34).

The world is full of negativity, and the enemy is constantly telling depressing lies to everyone around us. People always need hope and encouragement, and there is little, if any, available to them in the natural. As spirit beings, we are able to impact others in ways the rest of the world can’t.

As we read, study and meditate upon scripture daily, we are depositing into our hearts hope, light and encouragement that the Holy Spirit will be able to bring up out of us at the right time to speak into the ears and hearts of those trying to survive in a hopeless, dark, discouraged world.

Before we speak, let us anticipate the impact of our words upon those within the sound of our voice. We like to be encouraged and strengthened. We enjoy positive words of reinforcement. It benefits us. Speak words that benefit others today.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Tell the Father you want to choose your words carefully today. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to better anticipate the effect of your speech on those around you today. Consider how Jesus would say things, and imitate Him.
