According to his Power
Ephesians 3:16-18, 20
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power… 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…”
In these few verses, Paul refers three times to the power of God through the Holy Spirit. As we have been learning, we find this emphasized in many of Paul’s writings. He realizes how very important it is and he tries to share this magnificent truth with everyone.
Notice that Christ dwells in our hearts, through faith, by the power of the Holy Spirit in our inner being. Jesus Himself does not literally dwell there as He is seated in Heavenly places with the Father (Ephesians 2:6); rather, the Holy Spirit dwells there.
I love how Paul says that we will have power as we are “rooted and established in love”. Jesus said we must love God and love others. In fact, we are to love each other the way Jesus loves us (John 13:34-35).
Finally, Paul tells us how it is that God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”. How? According to His power at work within us!
We must let the Holy Spirit work in us.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Thank the Father, and Jesus, for sending their Holy Spirit to reside in you with power. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal more of His love and tell Him you want to be firmly established in it.
