The Spirit Speaks

 In Daily Devotional

Acts 8:29

“Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”

Acts 13:2

“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’”

Learning to hear the Holy Spirit when He speaks is crucial to building an intimate personal relationship with God the Father. Jesus paid the highest price in the universe so that we could be restored to the Father. I believe this intimacy of relationship is only possible through the Spirit of God Who dwells in us.

Building a relationship with anyone requires some form of effective communication. For the most part, this primarily involves some form of verbal communication, ability to hear, and a response. While there are some people who have severe hearing and speaking disabilities, they learn to communicate in very specialized ways. Relationships require communication.

Most Christ-followers have never heard an audible voice, rather they sense distinct words or instructions in their mind that their heart understands as divine in origin. The Holy Spirit gives ideas and impressions that never conflict with the Word, and generally are not what your natural inclination, or fleshly desire, would normally be.

Scheduling time daily to be still, listen, and talk with God are important first steps.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Ask the Father to help you to hear and respond to His Holy Spirit today. Ask Him something, then be still and listen. Give Him a response. He longs for conversation with you.
