We will never know this side of heaven how the Holy Spirit will use our seed-planting to bring multiple harvests resulting in countless lives touched by the Good News of Jesus!
We are often asked why we choose to do prison ministry. Charles T. Studd, missionary to formerly unreached people in Asia and Africa, said it best:
There are so many creative ways to minister and work in the harvest fields! God can and will send out anyone to be His voice, hands, and feet!
A little over two years ago I had injured my back. I was in severe pain, getting only about two hours of sleep at night. I don’t know why, but I would be walking and my right leg would just give out as if it were not even there. After being put in a wheel chair and taken to the infirmary on several different occasions, they finally gave me a walker to assist me so I would have something to hold onto to keep me from falling.
I had been on the walker for over eleven months when Freedom in Jesus Ministries came to the Montford Unit for a revival. Don Castleberry had been watching me and could see I was in obvious pain. He asked me if it be all right for him to pray for me. He and Stephen Canup prayed for my healing. It was not an immediate healing, but after they prayed over me, I actually did feel some relief. That night when I went to bed, I slept for the first time in over a year because I was actually pain free.
The next morning I had a doctor’s appointment and I did not use the walker. I folded it up and carried it across the street to the infirmary. Of course the doctor asked me what I was doing. I told her that I had been prayed on for healing and did not need the walker anymore. She told me I would need to use the walker for at least another year. In turn, I told her I had been healed through God’s love and mercy.
That was over two years ago. I have been pain free and living a normal live ever since. Since that time, I have been a very firm believer in the healing powers of prayer. I cannot thank Don and Stephen enough for their prayers.
